as beautiful as the characters in this piece are (love the expressions, the doll (little girl?) is absolutely haunting and the mermaid's expression is equally captivating) what I love most about this piece is how perfectly you represented the pool of water. I've never seen water look so realistic in a painting before w/o being over-exaggerated (hope that makes sense). No matter how long I stair at this piece (and I've been here a good 10 minutes before I started writing this) I keep going back to the water.
You are a true artist!

Ok.......I'm gonna go out on a limb here by assuming that the doll is a real girl. I dont remember ever seeing a porcelain doll with that pose. It also seems that the doll's hair and dress is moving. I think the mermaid is drowning a little girl!!!???!!!
